Dear Members of Our Congregation,
Attached you will find the proposed revisions to our congregation’s Constitution, Bylaws, and Continuing Resolutions. In accordance with our governing documents, we are providing these revisions well in advance of our Annual Meeting in September so that everyone has sufficient time to review them before the congregational vote.
The majority of the revisions are the result of updates required to align our constitution with the most recent ELCA Model Constitution for Congregations. These required changes are the color red throughout the document.
In addition, Congregation Council has proposed several local revisions that are the color purple. Most of these are minor edits, such as wording updates or clarifications. There are two significant changes we would like to bring to your attention:
Congregation Council C12\.01
In February 2026, Congregation Council approved a Continuing Resolution establishing that:
“The voting membership of the Congregation Council shall consist of the pastors and not more than ten nor fewer than eight members of this congregation…”
This language has now been incorporated into the Constitution under section C12.01.
Duties of Officers Adopted Bylaws
Council has also added a list of duties and responsibilities for Congregation Council members. This addition can be found in the Bylaws under bullet point number 3 and is intended to provide greater clarity regarding the expectations of those serving on Council.
We encourage all voting members to carefully review the proposed revisions prior to the Annual Meeting in September. If you have any questions or would like clarification on any of the proposed changes, please feel free to contact a member of the Congregation Council before the meeting. You can find the proposed Constitution attached to this email, or physical copies will be set out in the Narthex for you. We will work on getting it posted on the website and app.
Thank you for taking the time to review these important updates. We appreciate your thoughtful consideration as we continue to ensure that our governing documents remain current and serve the needs of our congregation.
In Christ,
Congregation Council
