“THE CHURCH…how it shapes our behavior. “

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind…” Romans 12:2

Have you ever noticed how much our environment influences our behavior? We dress a certain way for work, we speak differently around family and we act accordingly to who we are with. Every day, the world tries to shape how we think, how we speak, and how we live. Social media, music, movies, and politics all carry a message that has a major impact on our behavior and how we respond to all the pressures around us.

The church too, is a place that influences behavior. It is meant to be a place that re-orients us towards the truth; helps us reset our priorities; and reminds us who we are in Christ. So, when the church functions as God intended, it provides the environment that will transform each of us, not only into better versions of ourselves, but into the image of Christ himself. The church helps to re-center our values and our purpose in life. The church becomes a place where we are inspired and challenged to support one another. And, as we become the body of Christ, we break away from the worldly patterns and align ourselves with God’s purpose for our life.

Church is not about perfect people — it’s about becoming a people being perfected by God's grace.

Our life can be radically different when we choose to forgive others when it is hard; to love others when it is inconvenient; and to live a life with integrity when no one is watching. As it says in Matthew 5:14, “we are the light of the world”. So with many lights shining within the church, we have the opportunity to have an local impact while influencing the world around us.

Dear Lord, thank you for giving us your church as the place where we can be challenged, changed, and shaped to reflect you. Help make our church a place where all can come together as one and to reach out to others in ways that honor you. Amen.
