“Lord, take my moments and my days…let them flow in ceaseless praise”

“Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” Psalm 90:12

Time is one of the few things in our lifetime that we can’t stop, set aside, or get back. Life goes on whether we want it to or not and we do not have the opportunity to undo things we’ve done or to do them differently. We have only one opportunity to make the most of the time God gives us on this earth.

All our moments are important to God, not just the ones spent involved with church activities, in prayer or reading scripture. It also includes those moments we spend in the conversations with others, the work we do, and the way we respond to distractions and inconveniences. It is the way we react to various situations we encounter and in how we deal with the pressures of life. It is in the choices we make and what we do in our daily routines and responsibilities

Lord, teach me to live each moment with purpose, reflecting your love in what I do.

When Havegal wrote these words, she meant every second of our life is a gift from God and not a second should be wasted. By asking God to take our days, we invite him to guide our every action and thought. We let him influence how we interact with others, how we make decisions, and how we use our gifts. We are making a commitment to live our life serving God and loving others.

Dear Lord, take my moments and my days and let them flow in ceaseless praise. Help me to not waste any of the time you have given me. Guide my actions and my thoughts; show me how I am to interact with others; guide the decisions I make; and show me how to use the gifts you’ve given me to be of service to others. Teach me to live each moment honoring you and reflecting your love in everything I do. Amen.
