Objective: To offer a safe harbor for the community to learn practical tools for using AI and "future-proof" Isle against the rapid changes in technology.

"God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and a sound mind.” As our world changes, Faith Lutheran is opening its doors as a 'Safe Harbor' to explore the new frontier of Artificial Intelligence.

Come join us!

What Is This?

We’re hosting a special movie night on August 14 at 7 PM to see The AI Doc: Or How I Became an Apocoloptimist.  We will talk about how we can use these new tools to serve our neighbors and care for our community. Come learn in a safe, friendly place how we can shape technology to reflect our values of human dignity and stewardship. Coffee and fellowship to follow! (Freewill offering is welcomed.)

Why Now? The world is at a turning point. Artificial Intelligence is no longer "the future"—it is here, affecting our jobs, our energy grid, and even how we talk to our families. We can either put our heads in the sand or learn to lead. By starting now, Isle can become a model of a "Third Pathway"—using technology to strengthen local self-reliance and agency rather than letting outside tech companies dictate our future.

Why Watch This Movie? The AI Doc: Or How I Became an Apocaloptimist isn't a "fear bludgeon." Produced by the Oscar-winning team behind Everything Everywhere All at Once, this movie is a visual, engaging journey that leaves you feeling optimistic. It asks the healthy questions we need to answer together.

Join the Conversation Stay for the Coffee Hour immediately following the film. We're here to listen as your concerns and questions that night will be "baked in" to the next three sessions to ensure we are talking about what Isle actually cares about.

Learn More: Come learn in a safe, friendly place in three following weeks. (Avoiding Labor Day)

Seminar Series (AI 100): Three Fridays (Aug 21, Aug 28, Sept 11) for 90 minutes each (7:00 – 8:30 PM). Learn how we can shape technology to reflect our values of human dignity and stewardship.  (Freewill offering is welcomed.)

Aug 21 - AI 101 – Demystifying what AI is (a tireless assistant) and isn't (a sentient brain).

Aug 28 - Ethics & Safety – Sorting through "Doom vs. Utopia" and protecting against scams and deepfakes.

Sept 11 - Energy & Environment – Discussing the local impact of AI on resources like water and the electrical grid.

Going Deeper If there is enough interest, we will offer Part 2: Regenerative Intelligence later this fall. This second half goes deeper into using AI ethically for community projects, workplace innovation, and co-creating a "Code of Conduct" for our town’s tech use.
