Job Listing: Custodian

TITLE OF POSITION: Custodian

SUPERVISOR: Lead Pastor

HOURS: 5-8 hours/week with more around holidays and special events.

PAY RATE: $15/hour

A. GENERAL SUMMARY OF WHAT THE POSITION DOES

Assists in ensuring the Church’s physical plant and properties are clean, orderly, and maintained safely. 

B. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION

1. Weekly Duties: (At least once per week and more as needed)

   1. Vacuum Fellowship Hall and Meeting Room.

   2. Empty all garbage cans in church.

   3. Vacuum office spaces.

   4. Vacuum entrance rugs.

   5. Dust pews, pulpit, altar, railings, piano, and organ (but don’t dust keys or organ bench).

   6. Vacuum carpeting in church and pews.

   7. Vacuum Library and Education Wing.

   8. Take garbage to the dumpster (this includes anything people want to have disposed of, that ends up in the back entry – cardboard, old books flowers, etc.).

   9. Clean all bathrooms (4); scour toilets, clean mirrors, clean bathroom fixtures – bathrooms are checked and re-cleaned at least three times a week – make sure there is toilet paper, paper towels, soap, etc. in them at all times.

   10. Sweep and wash floors in bathrooms and kitchen.

   11. Wash both sides of the eight (8) entrance doors.

   12. Empty vacuum canister and clean bag – sometimes can do twice a month.

2. Duties as needed:

   1. Purchase supplies needed or report to the office things that need to be ordered.

   2. Sweep entrances, narthex, and under pews.

   3. Clean baseboards, check for cobwebs, etc.

   4. Check church after functions, (baby showers, anniv. etc.) and clean as needed.

   5. Check before and after funerals.

   6. Check after weddings held at church – before and after the wedding.

3. Involve Volunteers in the care and maintenance of Church Property and Equipment

   1. Be prepared to report to the office or Property Committee regarding the condition of the Church.

   2. Be responsible for preparing the church facilities before and cleaning them after any special events. That is weddings, funerals, baptisms, or other special events.

4. Undertake whatever duties are directed that contribute to the Mission of Faith Lutheran Church and its safe, clean environment.
