“THE CHURCH…a Launchpad for Ministry” “For the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve…” Mark 10:45

Many people come to church looking for help, and that is good. Others may come to listen to a sermon; maybe receive a prayer and some encouragement; visit with a few friends; and then leave, feeling they have done their Christian thing for the week. There is nothing wrong with hearing God’s word, partaking in communion, receiving God’s blessing, and having fellowship with others. But, if that is all they do, week after week, they are missing out on the most important part of being a Christian.

Jesus does not call us to be passive audience members within his church. He calls us to be his servants and he empowers us to do so by equipping us with various spiritual gifts to be used when serving others. The church is not just a place were we come to be served. It is the place where God equips us with knowledge, confidence and the faith to go out and serve others. He has all of us living where we are living, so we can minister to the people he has placed around us.

God wants us to be dependent on him, and responsible to others.

He has called all of us to be his missionaries. While some have been called to serve in other parts of the world; the majority of us, are being called by God to be missionaries right here in our own backyards. To the people within our community, in our work place, to our families and our friends.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for making this church a place where we are nurtured, taught, and transformed to reflect your heart in all we do for others. Now, give us a heart to do all we can for your people, the boldness we need to step out to reach others, and the willingness to carry your message of love and forgiveness to everyone. Amen
