“THE CHURCH…We are Christ Body in this World”

“Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.” 1 Corinthians 12:27
Maybe you remember “The Church Song” written by Jay Beach, in 1988. It goes like this…
We are the church, the body of our Lord. We are all God’s children, and we have been restored. The church is not a building where people go to pray. It’s not made out of sticks and stones, and it’s not made out of clay. You can go to worship, but you cannot go to church. You can’t find a building no matter how you search. The church is not a business, a committee or a board. It’s not a corporation for the business of the Lord. The church, it is the people, living out their lives, called, enlightened, sanctified for the work of Jesus Christ!
Yes, we have a building we call church, with a Pastor and a leadership team, service programs and activities, educational opportunities and people who worship together. They are all a very important part of our church, but they are not in total or even the essence of what God intended this church to be.
Truly, to be the church, we need to be the body of our Lord!
Over the last few months, we have looked at the role of the “church” for us as God’s people. People living out their lives as God intended. People forgiving others, serving others, and loving all people. People building community, working for justice and showing compassion. People at work being God’s hands and feet in this world. People using the gifts God has given them. It is everyone working together to be the body of Christ in our community.
Dear Lord, when we join others in worship, whether in person or on-line, may your word guide and direct us in your ways. As we receive your body and blood, may we feel your grace and accept your forgiveness. As we build a Christian community, make it one that supports and openly welcomes everyone. As we learn about and experience your love, help us to walk out the church doors, ready to be the church wherever we go. Amen
